OREANDA-NEWS. July 25, 2014. The European Union intends to speed up the provisory implementation of the provisions of the Association Agreement with Moldova, so that latter could obtain early benefits from it. European Commissioner for Enlargement and Neighbourhood Policy Stefan Fule made statements to this effect during the plenary session of the Council on Foreign Relations for the Eastern Partnership in Brussels, according to a press release by the European Commission.

EU will help Moldova to face provocations, by providing political support, technical and financial assistance.

“These measures are taken as reaction to evolutions in the region and as reply to commercial restrictions imposed by Russia to Moldova,” Fule said.

Fule also highlighted that "the signing of the Association Agreement with EU is a historic moment, which opens another level of ties between the states"

Moldova signed the Association Agreement with the European Union on 27 June 2014. Under the procedures, the treaty is to be ratified by those 28 EU member states and will enter into force on the first day of the second month after the last ratification instrument is submitted.

So far, four EU member states parliaments have ratified the Association Agreement between Moldova and EU, namely Romania, Estonia, Lithuania and Latvia.
