OREANDA-NEWS. Transstroymekhanisatsiya (TSM), a Mostotrest subsidiary, has won a public contract to overhaul a section of the M-2 "Crimea" Highway (km 21.8 - km 36) in the Moscow region. The public tender was held by the Federal Road Agency Central Russia Road Management Directorate. The total value of the contract is RUB2.853 billion.

In accordance with the contract, TSM will overhaul a section of the Class 1A highway, rebuild a traffic interchange with four exit lanes at km 31 (near the town of Bykovo) and repair a Class 3 motor road (Bykovka) outside the interchange. The length of the core highway section is 14.2 km, with 6 to 8 traffic lanes; the length of the Bykovka road is 7 km, with up to two lanes. The project includes expansion of the traffic way, reinforcement of the existing pavement, repair of underground passages, erection of bus stop booths and other improvements to the road section. The project is scheduled for completion in December 2015.

To ensure safety and optimal traffic conditions, lighting and barrier fences will be installed throughout the section on the roadsides and central lines. Within the boundaries of forest areas, protective barriers will be installed to prevent access of wild animals to the roadway. In addition, the contract envisions installation of video surveillance equipment and traffic control points.

During the project implementation, transit traffic will be directed through the M-2 "Crimea" main route, while the minimum roadway width to accommodate six lanes (at least 21.5 m) will be ensured. Prior to the project launch, the sites will be fenced and temporary traffic control devices will be installed.

The M-2 "Crimea" Federal Highway (the Simferopol Highway), the federal highway Moscow - Tula - Orel - Kursk - Belgorod to the border with Ukraine, is an integral part of the E105 Route. The total length of the highway is 720 km.

The section under reconstruction begins at the border of the city of Moscow (near the Moscow Ring Road - Varshavskoye Avenue Interchange) and runs through the Leninsky and Podolsky districts of the Moscow region. The section ends at the M-2 "Crimea" and Domodedovskoye Avenue intersection (km 36 + 283).
