OREANDA-NEWS. August 26, 2014. The consistency of deliveries and the quality of the produced wines are the main factors for Moldovan winemakers to be successful on the American market. U.S. Ambassador to Moldova William Moser made statements to this effect at a joint press conference with the winemakers of Moldova.

Representatives of 11 wine companies and high state officials returned from the USA in early August, where they had meetings with American wine importers and distributors, at an initiative by the State Secretary John Kerry. The next visit of this kind to the United States will take place in early March.

According to Moser, most Americans are interested in wines that are found only in Moldova, produced from native varieties. "On the international market, one needs to come up with something different, specific for their country. Moldova has two such varieties: Feteasca and Rara Neagra", said the ambassador.

The representatives of wine companies said they came back with positive feedback after the visit to the USA. "Some experts assessed the cost of one bottle of our wines to be around 50 dollars in the store", said one of the winemakers.

For his part, Agriculture and Food Industry Minister Vasile Bumacov said that "National Vine, Wine Office has the necessary resources to ensure the consistency of the delivery of goods to the American market."

USA is the biggest wine importer in the world, with an annual intake of 3.4 billion litres. The sales of Moldovan wine in the United States in 2013 amounted to about 660,000 litres, by 37 per cent less against 2012.
