OREANDA-NEWS. Construction work on the Nacala Corridor project, which will link the Moatize Coal Mine with the Nacala-a-Velha Port Terminal in Mozambique, reached a new milestone on August 14, when the barrel of the wagon dumper was lifted into place. This piece of equipment will be responsible for unloading coal at the terminal. The barrel, weighing in at 250 metric tons, was lifted into place at the terminal by a crane with a capacity of 750 metric tons and a boom of approximately 28 metres. The whole operation involved 200 workers.

The project in Mozambique is aligned with our corporate strategy, one of whose pillars is growth by means of world-class assets that create value rather than simply adding volume, with the focus on competitive assets and projects with the size and expansion capacity to bridge a variety of economic cycles.

Galib Chaim, executive director responsible for Capital Projects Implementation, who was also present during the operation in Nacala-a-Velha, emphasized the project's importance to Vale. “In logistical terms, the progress achieved on the Nacala Corridor will signify autonomy in relation to the transportation of coal in line with the Moatize Expansion Project,” he stated. The Moatize Expansion Project is expected to double the annual production capacity of the Moatize Mine.
