OREANDA-NEWS. Net foreign assets of the Belarusian government and National Bank of Belarus (NBB) amounted to U.S. USD 5.602 billion as of August 1, 2014, up 5.3% since January 1, 2014, the National Bank of Belarus told.

The increase was due to a decrease in gross foreign assets by 1.3% in January-July 2014 to USD 6.537 billion and a 28.2% decrease in liabilities to USD 934.6 billion as of August 1, 2014.

Net foreign assets placed in hard currency amounted to USD 5.371 billion as of August 1, 2014, while soft currency assets were equivalent to USD 230.9 million.

In 2013 net foreign assets of the Belarusian government and National Bank of Belarus decreased 50% on the year to U.S. USD 5.322 billion as of January 1, 2014. Foreign liabilities grew 2.9 times to USD 1.301 million as of January 1, 2014.
