OREANDA-NEWS. September 26, 2014. National Settlement Depository (NSD), Russia’s central securities depository, has launched a new website to provide market participants with information on assignment and affirmation of pre-Legal Entity Identifiers (LEIs).

LEIs (Legal Entity Identifiers) are 20-digit, alpha-numeric codes connecting key reference data and can be used to identify firms participating in global financial markets.

Financial firms are required by the Regulatory Oversight Committee (ROC) of the Global Legal Entity Identifier System (GLEIS) to register for a LEI with a pre-local operating unit, creating a unique and unambiguous way to identify legal entities.

The GLEIS is still in development; however, firms can obtain a pre-LEI from their local operating unit.

Updated information about pre-LEIs assigned and affirmed by NSD will be provided on a daily basis with the portal allowing market participants to find information using their pre-LEIs or find identifiers using market participants’ names.
