OREANDA-NEWS. JSC STROY-TREST has commissioned the refurbished Obluchensky tunnel, which was built over 100 years ago, at the 8193rd km of the Obluchie - Izvestkovaya section of the Far Eastern Railway.

The Old Obluchensky tunnel, which is 312.3 meters long, was conceived as a double-track tunnel, however, when a second tunnel, which was built in 2013 by the tunnel units of the SK MOST Group of Companies, has been put in service, this tunnel could be used as a single-track tunnel.

The reconstruction included installation of a new lining, installation of a continuous welded rail tunnel and approach track, overhaul of the drains over the tunnel, installation of new communication, signaling, and lighting systems.

The speed of the east bound trains through the tunnel after the reconstruction was stepped up from 25 to 60-80 kilometers per hour, which allowed for lifting restrictions on the throughput capacity of this section of the Trans-Siberian Railway Line.
