OREANDA-NEWS. United Metallurgical Company (OMK Closed Joint Stock Company, based in Moscow) has successfully certified the production of large diameter pipes from its own rolled sheet according to the specifications of South Stream Transport (under the DNV-OS-F101 2010 standard). This gives Vyksa Steel Works the official right to manufacture pipes for the off-shore part of the South Stream gas pipeline made using its own rolled stock (produced at VSW's Heavy Plate Mill 5000 using slabs delivered by NLMK).

“Obtaining a certificate from South Stream Transport for the pipes to be manufactured exclusively from Russian metal enables us to fully localize pipe production in Russia and lower the risks and logistics expenses if we win new tenders from South Stream Transport. We require up to 1 million tons of slabs per year and the possibility to buy them in Russia will no doubt be another contribution towards developing our country,” said OMK President Vladimir Markin.
