OREANDA-NEWS. On October 1, 2014, a group of young participants of Bridge - Young Leaders Forum, a Russian-Finnish forum, taking place in St. Petersburg as part of St. Petersburg International Innovation Forum from September 30th to October 2nd, visited the Pravoberezhnaya CHPP of TGC-1.

The young businessmen from Turku and St. Petersburg took a guided tour round the Pravoberezhnaya CHPP, with plant employees being their guides. Next to the first steam power unit, the young entrepreneurs and politicians found out about heat generation; next to the combined-cycle unit, the latest and most advanced generating facility TGC-1 currently has, they could become familiar with the basics of gas turbine generation.

The guests had a unique opportunity to compare the technologies and control systems used by these two different types of power generating equipment. At the end of the tour, they were taken to the plant's control room where the shift supervisor demonstrated how modern automation systems help to control the operation of a huge power-generating facility. After the tour, plant employees answered guests' questions.

According to Forum participants, such tours give a great opportunity to visit Russian large-scale enterprises having a great impact on the national economy.

“This has been my first visit to a power plant,” said Tomi Virtanen, Assistant Manager at Turku Chamber of Commerce. “It was interesting to see such a large enterprise running. Sharing experience in the power industry is very important for us, especially when it comes to innovative technologies and their deployment at facilities; and TGC-1 is a very good example of such deployment.”
