OREANDA-NEWS. The Federal Environmental, Industrial and Nuclear Supervision Service of Russia's (Rostechnadzor) commission conducted September 22-October 2, 2014 a scheduled integrated inspection of nuclear and radiation safety at Kalinin NPP. The inspection was organized by Rostechnadzor's Headquarters with involvement of inspectors from Volga and Urals Interregional Departments for supervision of nuclear and radiation safety. In addition to the staff of Rostechnadzor and specialists from Headquarters of Rosenergoatom, the commission included observers from the Iran Nuclear Regulatory Authority.

"The objective of the conducted inspection was to carry out the independent state-level oversight of compliance with mandatory requirements of legal regulatory acts of the Russian Federation in the field of the use of atomic energy, of compliance with the conditions of the operating license for the plant's power units, and of implementation of the quality assurance programs. All aspects of nuclear and radiation safety were also checked," Alexander Shalyapin, the Chief Inspector of Kalinin NPP, said.

The inspection program covered the areas such as organization and control of NPP operation; training of the personnel; compliance with the license conditions; repair and maintenance of the equipment; nuclear safety; radiation safety and radioactive waste management; emergency planning and emergency preparedness; physical protection of nuclear material and radioactive substances; control and accounting of nuclear material, radioactive substances and radioactive waste.

The Rostechnadzor's commission produced a report on the inspection findings. The report was forwarded to Kalinin NPP. No violations of the safe operation limits and conditions, as well as breaches of power units operating license conditions and quality assurance programs, were found.
