OREANDA-NEWS. On October 8, SOCAR President Rovnag Abdullayev received the delegation led by the British Prime Minister's Trade Envoy Lord Risby.

Welcoming the guests, Mr. Abdullayev mentioned the developing bilateral relations between the two countries and emphasized good prospects for future expansion of these relations. Pointing out the fact that British delegation's visit to Baku coincides with the 20th anniversary of the start of International cooperation of Azerbaijan in the oil sector, SOCAR President stated that Company had established effective cooperation with BP during the last period.

Expressing his gratitude for the warm welcome, Lord Risby spoke about the importance of mutual visits in strengthening of relations between the two countries. Mr. Risby said UK highly appreciates Azerbaijan's energy sector, in particular, cooperation with SOCAR, and activities of BP and other British companies in the country. SOCAR President Rovnag Abdullayev noted the global importance of the "Southern Gas Corridor" project and a great contribution of the joint efforts in "Shah Deniz-2", TANAP and TAP projects by BP and SOCAR to European energy security. Mr. Abdullayev briefed on the country's achievements in the socio-economic development and the role of the oil and gas sector in these achievements. It was noted that the process of formation of SOCAR as an international oil company is under way.

The meeting also discussed other issues of mutual interest.
