OREANDA-NEWS. Sales of passenger cars in Europe, including the EFTA countries, grew by 6.1% to 1, 269 517 cars in September. According to the European Automobile Manufacturers Association (ACEA), a positive result was recorded in the majority of EU countries, including all major car markets of Europe - from 26.2% in Spain to 3.3% in Italy. For the first nine months of 2014 car sales in Europe were 9 906 668 units - it is more by 5.8% than a year before.

As noted in the review of the European car market in September, among automakers the largest number of cars was sold in the European Union by Volkswagen - 146,620 vehicles (+ 7.5%). Second place is kept by Ford, which sold 102,872 cars - it is more by 6.5% than the year before. Opel / Vauxhall is on the third place, whose sales rose by 6.2% to 93,142 units. Two French brands - Renault (78598 units, +7.5%) and Peugeot (73977 units, + 11%) are completing the "five" leaders.
