OREANDA-NEWS. Kama Research Institute for Comprehensive Surveying of Deep and Ultradeep Holes (JSC KamNIIKIGS) (Perm, part of the Rosgeologia state holding company) has commenced operations for evaluating the oil-and-gas potential of pre-Devonian deposits in the north-east part of the Volga-Urals oil-and-gas province.

The works are performed under a state contract concluded in October 2014 following a relevant tender between the Department of Subsoil Use for the Volga Federal District and Federal State Enterprise Nizhne-Volzhsky Research Institute of Geology and Geophysics (FSUE NVNIIGG). JSC KamNIIKIGS acts as a subcontractor.

Pre-Devonian deposits in the Volga-Ural oil-and-gas province are essentially a poorly explored yet promising field that is currently not being developed. The Institute's experts will have to carry out geochemical, lithological and petrographical studies of rock in exposures and well logs located on the territory of the Perm Territory, Sverdlovsk Region and the Udmurt Republic. The works are divided into three phases. The short-term plan is to elaborate the design estimate documentation, analyse previously collected materials, prepare a quarterly and an annual informational geological report.

During the next year, the Institute is to develop routes and conduct field surveys including rock sampling, perform stratification of pre-Devonian deposits sections for wells and exposures, carry out laboratory and analytical studies (lithological and petrographical, petrophysical, geochemical) of Upper Proterozoic oil-gas plays and evaluate the oil source potential of deep-sunk plays. This will allow experts to determine the conditions of the reservoir rock, cap rock genesis and assess the oil-and-gas potential of pre-Devonian deposits.
