OREANDA-NEWS. The molten core catcher manufactured by Volgodonsk branch of OJSC AEM-technologies (part of the machine-building division of Rosatom-Atomenergomash) has arrived at the site of unit №2 of the Belorussian nuclear power plant that is presently under construction.

Water and motor transport was used to deliver the molten core catcher to the Belorussian plant. The water part of the way went along rivers Don, Volga, Sheksna, Svir and Volkhov. The length of the route made up about 3,000 km. For transfer from water to motor transport in the vicinity of Velikiy Novgorod a new route was developed that was fully agreed with the departments of the Russian Railways, city administrations, federal road services and State Road Traffic Safety authorities. In the future this will enable us to deliver equipment for the nuclear power plant across the territory of Russia and Belarus without transit via any third countries".

The plant of OJSC AEM-technologies has had the experience of the molten core catcher manufacturing since 2010. Previously similar devices had been manufactured and shipped for the first and second units of Novovoronezh NPP, the first unit of Baltiiskaya NPP, the first unit of the Belorussian NPP.
