OREANDA-NEWS. Ukraine is steadily moving towards energy independence. This was stressed by Prime Minister of Ukraine Arseniy Yatsenyuk at a press conference on 30 December.

The Prime Minister has informed that today Chairman of Energoatom Yurii Nedashkovsky is in Brussels, where he "signs an agreement with Westinghouse to expand our cooperation and to substantially diversify nuclear fuel supplies from the US company Westinghouse.

"So, we are gradually moving from dependence on Russia towards energy independence, the Prime Minister underlined. In particular, it relates to the modernization of Ukrainian nuclear power plants, including the completion of two units. I advocates the completion of two units at existing nuclear power plants."

Arseniy Yatsenyuk noted that "now we have raised the Ukrainian nuclear power capacity from 50% to 65% of total energy market."

The PM said that, on the one hand, this is the cheapest electricity, on the other hand, due to the rise of the dollar, nuclear fuel has also become more expensive.

"On the supply of nuclear fuel, it is in line with the schedule, the Prime Minister informed. We make payment on schedule. I hope that our partners will also fulfill their obligations according to schedule."
