OREANDA-NEWS. McDermott International, Inc. (McDermott) reported that the company has completed the installation of a 3,086-ton central processing platform (CPP) topside using the tight-slot float-over method in the Kepodang gas field, Muriah Working Area, offshore Indonesia for PC Muriah Ltd, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Petronas. This brings the installation of all structures for the Kepodang project to a close.

McDermott commenced operations on this fast-track project, one month after the contract was awarded, in January 2013.

"The overall success of this project was made possible by the smart engineering of the float-over sequence to position the CPP topside next to an existing wellhead module already installed on the jacket at the installation site," said Hugh Cuthbertson, vice president and general manager, Asia Pacific. "Our global team of in-house engineering experts, high performance fabrication at our Batam, Indonesia yard and our strong supplier relationships in Indonesia were our key differentiators. The project scope included procurement, construction, installation and commissioning of the CPP topside and jacket, a wellhead module, a wellhead platform and jacket, 1.7-mile-long 10-inch diameter infield flowline, and installation of remote control facilities at an onshore receiving facility. The total weight of overall facilities is close to 11,000 tons.

The Kepodang field is located approximately 112 miles northeast of Semarang, Central Java, in water depths of up to 230 feet, and is expected to supply gas to the Tambak Lorok power plant in Semarang, Central Java.

In a separate announcement, McDermott announced Wednesday that one of its joint venture companies, Qingdao McDermott Wuchuan Offshore Engineering Co. Ltd. (QMW), recently completed a fast-track compression process module fabrication subcontract for Jord Oil & Gas Systems B.V. (JOGS). JOGS is the prime contractor for the process modules for the jackup compression platform which will connect to the Pemex Akal G-1 platform offshore Mexico.

The scope of work, awarded in the first quarter 2014, included construction-engineering, procurement of bulk materials, fabrication, pre-commissioning and transportation of three process modules, related skids and a flare boom.

"The on-schedule delivery of the process modules reflects the highly productive operations at the Qingdao yard, which are based on McDermott's global fabrication quality standards," said Scott Cummins, McDermott's executive vice president Offshore. "The design of the Qingdao fabrication facility and the mega-module fabrication shop, which can accommodate large structures in an enclosed environment, was an essential element for delivering schedule certainty on this fast-track project, allowing for continuous operations regardless of weather conditions."

JOGS Project Manager, Fedor Van Veen, expressed his deep appreciation for the high quality of craftsmanship, excellent safety performance and efficient execution throughout the project. This is the first project that QMW or McDermott have performed for JOGS.

"QMW worked so quickly and effectively, resolving a lot of challenges in a very flexible way," said Dick Roest, commercial director, JOGS. "From a contractual point of view, it was very easy working with QMW and we welcome them as a partner."
