OREANDA-NEWS. Indonesia's coal production eased 8 percent in January to 36 million tonnes compared with 39 million tonnes during the same period last year, a mining ministry official said.

Indonesian coal production in December was 35.25 million tonnes, while exports in January were 30 million tonnes, up from 25.9 million tonnes in December, ministry data showed.

"Production of coal in January 2015 decline compared to January 2014 because of the price," said Gultom Guska, head of subdirectorate supervision of coal mining at the energy and mineral resources ministry.

The world's top exporter of thermal coal has set a coal production target of 425 million tonnes this year, down from 459 million tonnes last year.
