OREANDA-NEWS. Travelers from more than 160 different countries have voted Denver International Airport (DIA) No. 8 on the list of the world's best large airports, making DIA the highest rated large American airport on the prestigious 2015 World Airport Awards list.

DIA moved up one position from last year's rankings, landing in the No. 8 spot among the world's best airports serving more than 50 million passengers. DIA also was recognized as the No. 3 best airport in North America.

"As Denver International Airport celebrates its 20th anniversary this year, we are putting a renewed focus on the needs and desires of our passengers and making investments that are elevating the overall travel experience at DIA," said airport CEO Kim Day. "The new Westin hotel will open this November, and rail service between the airport and Denver Union Station will begin in spring of 2016. With a healthy financial base, a tremendous facility and a thriving regional economy, we are well positioned to do even better things in the next 20 years."

The Skytrax World Airport Awards are voted on by customers in the largest, annual global airport customer satisfaction survey. The awards are based on 13 million customer nominations across 112 nationalities of air travelers, and included 550 airports worldwide. The survey evaluates customer satisfaction across 39 key performance indicators for airport service and products - including check-in, arrivals, transfers, shopping, security, immigration and departure at the gate.
