OREANDA-NEWS. On Saturday March 14, 2015, cyclone Pam devastated the Vanuatu archipelago. Even now, many of the surviving victims are still lacking shelter, drinking water, food supplies and electricity, especially on Tanna island.

As part of the partnership agreement existing between Legrand and Electriciens sans fronti?res since 2007, Legrand’s teams in Australia, New Zealand and New Caledonia began organizing with Electriciens sans fronti?res to send a team of 3 volunteer helpers to Tanna island. The aim of this deployment was to ensure the provision of street lighting in villages and other circulation and meeting places, the supply of electrical power to drinking water networks and medical structures, the connection of food storage and distribution centres, and the fitting of lighting points and socket outlets in emergency camps and the NGOs’ local base.

Legrand’s teams were thus able to provide support:  with the choice of materials in line with local standards in Vanuatu, and the handling of orders and transport logistics for their shipment; with administrative procedures such as customs clearance and the issuing of entry permits for the various materials involved.
