OREANDA-NEWS. Acting Prime Minister Natalia Gherman today participated in the launch of a twinning project "Strengthening National Bank of Moldova (BNM) capacity in the field of banking regulation and supervision in the context of EU requirements," which will contribute to carrying out the banking supervision duty, exercised by BNM in a modern and efficient institutional context.

The project’ main goal is to foster and adjust the regulatory framework of Moldovan banks to the present EU one, by ensuring the appropriate operation and activity of a sustainable and competitive banking system.

„The project has a double value, as it regards both the consolidation of the  banking sector – an extremely important area for Moldova, and reiterates EU support for implementing the Association Agreement,” Natalia Gherman said.

Gherman underlined that, since 2008, when the first twinning project was launched in Moldova, over 15 projects had been launched in diverse  fields, such as building the parliament's capacities to implement the EU acquis, consumers’ protection, intellectual property rights protection, reform  of penitentiaries, etc.

The concerned project has a budget of 1.2 million euros, is financed by EU and will last for two years, with technical assistance of 44 experts of the Romanian National Bank and Dutch Central Bank.
