OREANDA-NEWS. Basel Aero, a part of Russia's industrial diversified group Basic Element, announces that one of the largest Iranian carriers Mahan Air performed the first Tehran-Sochi flight on Tuesday, setting up a regular nonstop service between Iranian capital and Russia's Black Sea resort city of Sochi.

Tehran-Sochi-Tehran flight was launched as part of the Open Skies regime that is active in Sochi until summer 2016.

Open Skies agreement that took effect in Sochi on October 19, 2014 means that any foreign carrier may pick up and drop off passengers and cargo with no restrictions on aircraft types, frequencies, and regardless of interstate agreements.

Mahan Air will perform Tehran-Sochi flights twice a week, on Tuesday and Friday with a departure from Tehran at 23:15, arrival to Sochi at 21:45. The third flight will be added in August. Tehran-Sochi air service will be active until October 23, 2015.

In late March, Mahan Air performed three trial flights to Sochi. As they prompted successful, regular air service with the Iranian capital was established.
