OREANDA-NEWS. AvtoVAZ has no plans to build engines for serial cars Lada with the capacity exceeding 150 hp. Oleg Grunenkov, the project director Lada Xray, informed about it "Lada Club", who confirmed that currently at the plant there are research works on creation of turbo version based on the 1.4-liter engine. "This work is being done within the framework of research and development. In this case, we took our domestic engine of 1.4 liters. It is worked out the possibility of creating a turbo engine on its basis", - “AvtoSreda” quotes Mr.Grunenkov.

According to him, experts of AvtoVAZ are concentrated in the production of power units with capacity of up to 150 hp. This position is explained by Mr.Grunenkov by the fact that if the engine power exceeds 150 hp, the state takes more taxes from the car manufacturer.

As the "Lada Club" remarked, we are not talking about the global financing of the project of creating a new turbo engine based on the 1.4-liter engine. At first AvtoVAZ should receive "specific parameters" for this power unit and then we will make a decision - to which cars this engine will be installed.

According to “AvtoSreda”, the future turbo engine is planned to be installed on the Lada cars of C-Class. AvtoVAZ has already assembled a prototype of power unit; however, there is no information about the characteristics of the engine yet. In addition, a subsidiary of the auto giant - Tolyatti Company "Lada Sport" - intends to launch the 180-strong Kalina Sport Turbo the next year. Rather, it is a niche model that will be produced in limited edition.
