OREANDA-NEWS. Shvabe Holding is testing a new variable zoom day gunsight model for hunting weapons.

Testing is performed by employees of the enterprise within the Holding - Vologda Optical Mechanical Plant (VOMZ JSC). The variable zoom optical gunsight model which has been manufactured at the plant was modified. The principal characteristics remain previous, while the changes are related to the needs of the interested consumers.

Due to its optical and physical parameters, the device is suitable for moving hunting. It enables continuous observation of a target: with small zoom - to find and identify the object, with maximum zoom - to examine it more closely and take aim before shooting.

The sight has 3x to 9x zoom option. Zooming is smooth and enables to fix easily any intermediate value. High-quality multilayer coated optics enables at least 80% optical transmission of the lenses. The advantages also include the all-metal case and a long support part of the gunsight to choose an optimal mounting mode. The flip-top covers protect the objective the eyepiece lenses from dust, water and mechanical damages.

"The difference between of tested device and the previous model is the gunsight reticle. In the prototype model it is installed in the rear (second) focal plane and cannot be scaled during zooming. In the new model it is installed in the first focal plane. With such arrangement, the size of the pointing mark during zooming are changed in proportion to the zooming factor. The crosshair elements used to evaluate the target range work at every zoom value. The choice is the consumers' - depending on their objectives and habits. It's rather the matter of convenience. Like it is the case with the crosshair illumination which was not included to the new gunsight model, so that the consumer would have an option to choose", - says the VOMZ general director Mr. Vasiliy Morozov.

Complex testing before starting the serial production are performed for eventual correcting of the engineering documentation for the model. First during factory testing, the technicians measure all optical characteristics, perform impact tests and climatic exposure tests. Then gunsight stability and fire accuracy are checked during the full-scale testing, when the gunsight is installed on the weapon.

The serial production of the new zoom gunsight by VOMZ is supposed to begin later this year.
