OREANDA-NEWS. SSE is supporting the OuTrop Forest Fire Appeal in aid of The Orangutan Tropical Peatland Trust (OuTrop) with a donation of ?10,000.

The dry season in Borneo has created a situation where fires are devastating the peatland across large areas of the country. The raging fires are destroying the natural habitat of the Orangutan, as well as gibbons and other wildlife, causing dangerous levels of pollution in the city of Palangka.

OuTrop is working with three fire-fighting groups on the ground who have made heroic efforts to protect the people and wildlife of the country, but they need help. That is why SSE is continuing its ongoing support for OuTrop by donating a lump sum to help pay for supplies and equipment. SSE is also encouraging its employees and the general public to give what they can to protect this endangered species.

SSE has supported OuTrop’s efforts to protect the Orangutan’s natural habitat through donations and fundraising efforts, for example Will Morris, Managing Director Retail, completed a sponsored bicycle journey which raised over ?8,000.

Will Morris, SSE’s Managing Director Retail, said: “The Orangutan is one of the most threatened species on the planet and is in need of our help. OuTrop do amazing work to protect the natural habitat of these beautiful animals and we are proud to continue to offer our support and promote their appeals. Without help the fire-fighters in Borneo are going to struggle to contain the peat fires devastating the nation’s countryside so we are asking anyone who can to join with us to help.”
