OREANDA-NEWS. Zebra Technologies Corporation (NASDAQ: ZBRA) and Renesas Electronics Corporation (TSE: 6723) have unveiled further details of a development platform that combines the Zebra Zatar Internet of Things (IoT) cloud service and the Renesas Synergy™ Platform. By enabling the ARM® mbed™ IoT Device Platform on the Renesas Synergy Platform, Renesas and Zebra provide an efficient approach for architecting end-to-end solutions for embedded devices all the way to the cloud. The solution speeds time-to-market for IoT applications and enables asset-tracking applications for a wide range of real-time embedded systems.

Peter Carbone, Vice President, IoT Business Unit, Renesas Electronics America, said, “As the Internet of Things merges the physical and digital worlds, data becomes a new currency in a world where everyone can become a developer. To realize this vision, we are working with our long-time partners Zebra and ARM to enable a wider range of developers to deploy devices connected to the cloud, reducing time-to-market for the many creative concepts that will drive IoT. By linking the Renesas Synergy Platform, ARM mbed and Zebra's Zatar service, customers can quickly prototype and develop their IoT concepts.”

“At Zebra, we recognized that the biggest frontier to take advantage of IoT and our Zatar service is the embedded world,” said Phil Gerskovich, Senior Vice President of New Growth Platforms, Zebra. “With our combined end-to-end solution, the possibilities are endless. Customers can gain greater visibility into their operations to reach new levels of growth, efficiency and service while accelerating time-to-market and reducing product development risks. Developers want a complete reference solution and open standards to move quickly from initial concept to full deployment. Renesas Synergy with mbed Client delivers a platform with automatic connectivity to Zatar.”

“ARM mbed enables an IoT application to be deployed quickly and easily on a platform such as Renesas Synergy,” said Zach Shelby, Vice President of Marketing, IoT Business, ARM. “By enabling mbed on Renesas Synergy Platforms, Zatar's IoT cloud service seamlessly integrates to make an end-to-end solution. The combined platform accelerates development for IoT devices covering a wide range of capability and complexity.”

The Zatar IoT service is a cloud-based software service with a user-friendly experience that makes it easy for businesses of all sizes to adopt and use an IoT solution in their operations. The Renesas Synergy Platform is an integrated hardware and software platform designed to accelerate time-to-market, reduce total cost of ownership and remove many of the obstacles engineers face when developing products for the IoT. ARM's mbed device software enables devices to securely connect with mbed Enabled™ cloud services using a high-level C++ API.
