OREANDA-NEWS. Chile will launch a program to improve the quality of public education through the institutional strengthening of the sector’s administrative and pedagogical management, with the support of a $50 million loan from the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB). 

The Program to Strengthen Education Sector Management seeks to improve the skills of teachers and student learning by promoting effective strategic and educational management to local and school level. 

"The program seeks to generate the necessary basic conditions in terms of skills, processes and management tools to successfully implement the new institutional framework for public education in Chile, said Analia Jaimovich, IDB Project Team Leader. “This is an institutional reform which can obtain better practices that will be useful not only for Chile but for other countries in the region." 

The program will design and implement local management models of public education in 30 regions of the country, with the main focus on strategic management, local leadership, and the technical and educational support to schools. It also strengthens the capacity of the Ministry of Education at the central level and institutional inter-agency coordination that form the Quality Assurance System, which facilitates the implementation of continuous improvement processes of public education. 

The IDB loan of $50 million term is 13 years with the same grace period, a LIBOR-based interest rate, and it has a local counterpart of $20 million.
