OREANDA-NEWS. The Bank of Russia communicates that the obverse of coins to be minted from 2016 on will bear the national emblem of the Russian Federation instead of the current Bank of Russia emblem.

In the global practice coins show either the national emblem or the emblem of the issuer. The Bank of Russia launched the mintage of coins bearing its emblem in 1992, when the national emblem of the Russian Federation was not approved. In 2011-2014, the Bank of Russia minted the national emblem on commemorative coins dedicated to the Sochi Olympics.

Coins with the new obverse will have the same weight and dimensions, as well as physical characteristics.

All Bank of Russia coins in current circulation will remain the legal tender in the Russian Federation.
