OREANDA-NEWS. Renaissance Capital, a leading emerging and frontier markets investment bank, announces the appointment of Ruslan Babaev as Global Head of Equities with immediate effect. Ben Samuels, who has previously headed the Global Equities team, will be leaving the Firm to pursue new opportunities.

Ruslan Babaev will continue to be based in Moscow and will now combine the role of Global Head of Equities with his current responsibilities of Chief Business Officer at Renaissance Capital. One of his primary responsibilities in the new role will be to maximise business opportunities in the Cash Equities division with a strong focus on profitability and streamlining co-operation between all of the Firm’s locations and functions. In addition, Ruslan will be responsible for assessing new opportunities and driving Renaissance Capital’s entry into new markets.

Anthony Simone, Managing Director and CEO of RenCap Securities, Inc. in New York, and Renaissance Capital in London, will now be directly involved in the cash equities business, taking on a larger role representing the Firm with institutional international clients.

Igor Vayn, CEO, Renaissance Capital, commented: “Ruslan Babaev is a very experienced manager with extensive knowledge of our business. I am confident that he will make a substantial contribution to the Firm’s success by combining the two positions. Anthony Simone will work closely with Ruslan in building a strong client base and maintaining key client relationships. We believe that the new division of responsibilities is an optimal structure for our business. It will provide Renaissance Capital with opportunities for growth, supported by a sustainable existing business across EEMEA, MENA and Africa.”

He added: “I would like to thank Ben Samuels for his contribution to the Firm. He has been instrumental in leading the Cash Equities team and helping to build what we consider to be a top Frontiers and Emerging equities franchise. I wish Ben all the best in his new endeavours.”

Ruslan Babaev, a Managing Director, re-joined Renaissance Capital in 2012 from Otkritie Capital, where he served as Head of Equities from 2010. Prior to that, Mr. Babaev worked at Equity Sales of Goldman Sachs from 2005.
