OREANDA-NEWS  The Ministry of Industry and Trade of Russia has developed a draft experiment on labeling canned fish with electronic identification tools, it is undergoing regulatory procedures, the ministry's press service told RIA Novosti.

"Regarding the labeling of canned fish, we note that the relevant draft decree of the government of the Russian Federation on conducting an experiment was developed by the Ministry of Industry and Trade of Russia and is undergoing regulatory procedures," they said.

At the same time, the department stated that the experiment is voluntary and will not entail additional costs on the part of its participants, since marking codes and equipment for applying identification tools during the tests are provided by the operator of the Honest Mark marking system - the Center for the Development of Advanced Technologies (CRPT) free of charge.

In turn, the CRPT, with reference to the NIFI data of the Ministry of Finance, reported that the share of illegal trafficking in the canned food market is 11.5%. "It was the overgrown illegal market of canned food and some grocery products that became the basis for a voluntary experiment. We are ready to conduct an experiment on labeling canned food both technically and technologically, if appropriate decisions are made," added Yulia Kuzmina, head of the Department of exciseless food Products at the CRPT.

Earlier in November, the Ministry of Industry and Trade proposed to conduct an experiment on such labeling of canned food and certain types of grocery products from December 1, 2023 to August 31, 2024, but it did not take place on the specified dates.
