OREANDA-NEWS. May 19, 2016. GE Healthcare and The Health Management Academy (The Academy) today announced a renewed collaboration and will continue advancing healthcare by training  healthcare leaders through The Academy GE Fellows Program.

Each year, 35 healthcare leaders graduate from The Academy GE Fellows Program.  This two-year comprehensive leadership development program targets high potential administrative, financial, nurse, and physician executives from the top-100 health systems across the country. Through intensive training curriculum these leaders are prepared to assume top leadership positions within their health systems following graduation.

“Delivering successful results, both clinically and financially, is the challenge for today’s healthcare executives,” said Gary Bisbee, Ph.D., Chairman and CEO of The Health Management Academy. “We need leaders who have broad skillsets, are well connected through professional relationships and understand the practical steps required to lead through uncertainty. The Academy GE Fellows Program provides a unique opportunity to develop these types of leaders.”

To date, 74 percent of the graduates over the past ten years have been promoted to senior leadership roles within their health system, and that percentage continues to rise.

“Leaders today need to understand how to navigate an increasingly complex healthcare environment,” said Lee Cooper, President and CEO, GE Healthcare, U.S. and Canada. “Thinking strategically, facilitating constructive dialogue, learning from successes and failures and understanding how to be quick, nimble and efficient are some of the foundational elements necessary for our future leaders across the healthcare industry. The Academy GE Fellows Program focuses on these skillsets and equips these leaders with the tools they need to succeed.”

As part of the program, each Fellow identifies a significant strategic opportunity at their health system, develops and deploys a solution and reports the results. Projects have ranged from improving access to care, reimagining ambulatory health care delivery models, rolling out Telehealth services, improving customer satisfaction and more.

"The Academy GE Fellows Program has had a remarkable impact on leadership in health care.  It provides high potential leaders with the opportunity to learn not only from structured curriculum but also from a meaningful hands-on Action Project which contributes to the development of the Fellow and provides substantive outcomes for the sponsoring health system,” said Janice Nevin, M.D., M.P.H., President and CEO, Christiana Care Health System.  “My personal experience with the Fellowship was foundational in my professional development and continues to enrich me and my organization.  I am deeply grateful to the forward-thinking leaders from GE and The Academy who years ago knew how critical it was to make an investment in leadership."
