OREANDA-NEWS. The middle of outer containment weighs about 180 tons, its bottom diameter is 46.25 meters, top diameter is 34.5 meters. The structure was installed by means of caterpillar crane Demag CC6800. Lifting was preceded by pre-assembly of 12 components of dome middle part in the industrial area of the construction site.

"A very elaborate work has been done,” Vitaly Polyanin, Vice President of ASE Group of Companies, pointed out. “Considering dimensions of the structure, the tolerance was 10 mm per circumference and the result only proved the highest professional competence of experts building a new unit of Novovoronezh NPP -2."

Later on, the experts will have to assemble the top part of the dome and install it in its proper place from el. +56.70 to el. +64.40 and carry out welding to connect steel structures of the bottom and top tiers.

The dome part of outer containment consists of three parts. The first one, bottom part, has already been installed in the proper place and embedded in concrete.

Novovoronezh NPP-2 is based on design AES-2006, generation 3+. The design provides for double (inner and outer) containment of reactor building. The double containment of the reactor building, where the dome belongs to, prevents release of radioactive substances and serves as physical protection from extreme external effects.
