OREANDA-NEWSPossible US sanctions against the Russian Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline will not stop the project, but may lead to higher gas prices for customers in Europe. This opinion was expressed on Tuesday to the Russian media correspondent by the speaker on energy issues of the Alternatives for Germany faction in the Bundestag, Steffen Kotra, commenting on the plans of the US Congress to include sanctions against the pipeline in the draft law on appropriations for national defense for 2020.

"I don't expect torpedoing or slowing down the implementation of the project, I expect gas prices to rise for customers in Europe. And I expect that possible sanctions will complicate the implementation of new projects", said the German MP. "And then the United States has already achieved its low goal, behind this is their desire to sell our own liquefied gas produced by fracking, despite the fact that it is more expensive than pipe gas from Russia", he said.

The German deputy pointed out that there are no more "legal obstacles" to the implementation of Nord Stream 2. “It will be implemented”, said Cotre.
