OREANDA-NEWS. Bloomberg agency, citing analysts, wrote that there is much cheap gas in Europe, and Germany will be able to do without the pipeline Nord Stream 2 for at least the next few years.

According to the publication, German Chancellor Angela Merkel is under increasing political pressure; she is required to abandon support for Nord Stream 2, and analysts consider that Europe can easily do without additional supplies of Russian gas for at least the next few years.

The alleged poisoning of Russian opposition politician Aleksey Navalny worsened relations between Berlin and Moscow, but a sharp demand for gas is unlikely to be expected, experts believe. “I don’t think it impacts the gas market even if the project is scrapped,” Christoph Merkel, Managing Director of the consulting company Merkel Energy said.
