OREANDA-NEWS. Germany is unlikely to be able to reduce the consumption of Russian gas by 2024, Alexander Perov, head of special projects at the National Energy Security Fund, said at Economics Today. Now Germany is one of the most dependent European countries on it. At the same time, there is indeed an intention to abandon Russian energy resources in Europe, he noted.

It is unlikely that Germany, which is among the European countries most dependent on Russian hydrocarbons, will be able to reduce consumption by 2024. Therefore, Scholz's new statement looks somewhat exaggerated. It is obvious that the general trend towards the rejection of oil, gas and coal from Russia has been set, but it is not obvious that Europe will be able to achieve this tomorrow or in the coming years, Perov said.

Russia needs to focus on a period of three to four years, he believes.

Earlier, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz said that Berlin could become independent of coal and oil imports from Russia as early as 2022. Conditions are also being prepared for an early renunciation of Russian gas. Scholz called the right way to abandon dependence on Russian energy supplies, although he acknowledged that such a move would create a significant economic crisis on the continent.
