OREANDA-NEWSMaintaining low gas and oil prices may lead to a decrease in shale gas production in the USA in the near future. This was announced in an interview for a corporate magazine by the deputy chairman of the board of Gazprom, Oleg Aksyutin.

“In the course of this work, we identified a problem associated with the economics of shale projects, in particular in the USA, the leading country in the world in terms of gas production from shale. According to our estimates, if gas prices in the United States are kept at a low level, companies may begin to reduce production in the near future. According to estimates, the decline may begin at Henry Hub prices of less than $ 85/thousand cubic meters, and in January 2020 the average gas price at this hub was $ 76/thousand cubic meters", he said.

A negative impact on the production of shale gas can also be a decrease in oil prices. Reducing the activity of American producers of shale oil directly affects gas production, because a significant proportion of shale gas produced in the United States is associated gas.
