OREANDA-NEWS. Ukraine will receive about 2 billion US dollars for services connected to the transit of Russian gas in 2020. This was reported by the head of the board of the company Naftogaz of Ukraine Andriy Kobolyev in an interview with journalist Yanina Sokolova, which was posted on the YouTube channel on September 16.

The top manager added that the new contract between Naftogaz of Ukraine and Russian energy corporation Gazprom is based on the principle “pump or pay”, which implies that payment should be made for the volumes of the reserved transit capacities, regardless of whether there were physical supplies of fuel or not.

Kobolyev also recalled the risks of a complete stoppage of gas transit for the Ukrainian side, which could realize if the construction of the second branch of the gas pipeline Nord Stream is completed. According to him, for Ukraine this will mean that after the completion of the transit contract with a high probability there will be no gas transit through the territory of the country. At the same time, during the period of the contract, payment for transit will be made from the Russian side, because otherwise Ukraine will go to court, he added.
