OREANDA-NEWS. The energy crisis that broke out in the EU amid a shortage of gas before winter could «shake the foundations of Europe» and cause massive bankruptcy of companies. This was stated by Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki during a speech in the European Parliament.

According to the prime minister, rapidly rising prices, provoked, among other things, by the actions of Russian energy suppliers, are already putting many firms in front of a choice — to limit production or shift costs to consumers. The crisis can lead to that. that millions of companies will go bankrupt, and tens of millions of EU residents will end up in poverty.

«It is necessary to take into account the domino effect. One crisis can cascade into new shocks», Moravetsky added.

Earlier, the British magazine Spiked stated that the European Union considered Russia obliged to provide assistance against the background of the energy crisis, while a number of countries, including the United Kingdom and the United States, are preventing the launch of «Nord Stream – 2» and accuse Moscow of trying to benefit. According to journalist Mary Dejevsky, the behavior of Western countries can be described as illogical, since they blame Russia for the problems they created themselves.
