OREANDA-NEWS. The Polish company PGNiG reported that after making the necessary corporate decisions, it submitted to Russian companies Gazprom and Gazprom Export an unwillingness to extend the contract for the purchase of gas after 2022.

The contract was concluded on September 25, 1996. In accordance with the provisions of the contract gas was transported through the Yamal – Europe pipeline, and three years before the expected termination of the contract (December 31, 2019), the parties are required to submit a declaration of cooperation after 2022.

“In accordance with the desire of Poland to ensure the security of energy supplies and the implementation of the PGNiG strategy, in the last four years the company has made important steps to diversify the directions of getting natural gas in Poland,” the head of PGNiG Piotr Wozniak said, as it is quoted in the publication of the company.

It is noted that PGNiG has concluded long-term contracts for the supply of liquefied natural gas. The company purchases natural gas fields on the Norwegian continental shelf, which "in combination with the activities of the gas transmission system operator in the field of expanding the gas pipeline, allows to complete the contract in a timely manner in accordance with its provisions.”

The representative of Gazprom Export confirmed that they had received a report from PGNiG about their intention not to renew the gas supply contract. “The possibility of sending such a notification is provided by contractual terms. Gazprom Export continues to supply gas in accordance with the current contract,” he said.
