OREANDA-NEWS. The head of Naftogaz of Ukraine, Andriy Kobolyev said that the company does not plan to spend 2.9 billion US dollars received from Russia to pay its debts.

In his opinion, it’s important not to “spend this money on food”, but to use them in the spheres creating additional economic value in the future. “I consider energy efficiency, I consider extraction and infrastructure projects to be such things,” Kobolyev explained.

The top manager specified that Naftogaz had not yet spent money, awaiting the reaction of the Ukrainian government.

In late December, Moscow and Kiev signed a contract for the transit of Russian gas through Ukraine. The document is valid for 5 years. One of the conditions of the agreement was the mutual waiver of lawsuits for which no decisions were made, as well as the payment of 2.9 billion dollars from Gazprom under the verdict of the Stockholm arbitration.
