OREANDA-NEWS. The House of Representatives of the US Congress unanimously approved the amendments to the defense budget to tighten sanctions against the gas pipelines Nord Stream 2 and TurkStream. The decision was made on July 20, the broadcast of the vote was conducted on the website of the lower house of American parliament.

Amendments to impose tougher restrictions are proposed to be introduced into the defense budget for the next fiscal year, starting October 1. The new sanctions will affect foreign companies and individuals contributing to the implementation of the projects, in particular, the provision of vessels for laying pipes. To enter into force, the amendments should be approved by President of the United States, Donald Trump.

The USA for the first time imposed sanctions against Nord Stream 2 in December 2019. Because of this, the Swiss company Allseas was forced to withdraw the pipe-laying vessels from the Baltic Sea, and the construction of the gas pipeline was suspended.
