OREANDA-NEWS. A group of US congressmen submitted a resolution to the House of Representatives condemning a number of decisions by President Joe Biden in the field of energy policy, including the refusal to impose sanctions on the Nord Stream 2 pipeline, Republican Bob Latta said on Twitter.

According to the resolution, the Biden administration imposed a moratorium on the lease of areas of federal land or waters to develop oil and gas reserves, but at the same time called for an increase in the supply of crude oil from OPEC + countries and refused to impose congressional sanctions against Nord Stream 2.

In addition, politicians condemned the president's decision to cancel the construction of the Keystone XL pipeline on the US-Canadian border. Politicians have called on the administration to "abandon the costly energy agenda that threatens America's energy security and makes the country more dependent on foreign energy sources." The resolution was submitted by more than 20 politicians from the states, Ohio, Louisiana, Oklahoma and Texas.

Berlin and Washington issued a joint statement in the summer, which notes that for the implementation of Nord Stream 2, it is necessary to ensure the continuation of transit through Ukraine after 2024. Germany also pledged to seek sanctions against Russia "if the Kremlin uses energy exports as a weapon."

At the same time, Moscow has repeatedly urged to stop politicizing the situation and drew attention to the fact that the gas pipeline is beneficial not only to Russia, but also to the European Union.
