Women steal the show at Apple's developers keynote
Why's this such a big deal? Well before last year, only two women had made an appearance at Apple's developer conference keynote since 2007 -- and none of them worked at Apple. Last year, though, two women executives walked on stage during the same event!
Before then, a total of six women had appeared on stage at any Apple event according to Gizmodo. That included supermodel Christy Turlington Burns, who joined Cook in March for the launch of the Apple Watch. So, cue the excitement!
Developer conferences are predominantly male events, so it's newsworthy when four women appear on stage at the same event.
Here's a small breakdown of what we mean:
Now back to WWDC.
Stacey Lysik, director of Apple Watch Software, demoed WatchOS 3. Bethany Bongiorno, a software engineering executive, showed off new iOS features. And Cheryl Thomas, VP of Software Engineering Operations, closed the keynote by sharing a new code-learning program built for the iPad.
The breakout star, though, was Bozoma Saint John, self-proclaimed badass, "execu-mommy" and "head diva" of global consumer marketing for Apple Music. An hour-plus into the presentation, she even tried to use her Apple Music showcase to get the crowding rapping, but no one seemed awake enough to participate.
We don't deserve you Bozoma. You were the most fun we've had at a keynote since the introduction of Hair Force One. You make us want to hear more about Apple Music, and that's not easy.
