OREANDA-NEWS The aviation authorities of Russia and Mozambique are discussing agreements to launch direct flights, but the low flow of Russian tourists does not give grounds for such flights, Russian Ambassador to Mozambique Alexander Surikov said in an interview with RIA Novosti.

"Our aviation authorities are negotiating the necessary agreements in this regard, but the tourist flow, in my opinion, does not give much reason for direct commercial flights," Surikov said.

He added that there are practically no Russian tourists in Mozambique, there are only isolated cases. "So far, people come here on complex tours with visits to South Africa, the Kingdom of Eswatini, sometimes they stay in Mozambique," the diplomat concluded.

Earlier, the Council of Ministers of Mozambique canceled visas for tourist and business trips for citizens from 28 countries, including Russia. Russian citizens can now stay in Mozambique for up to 30 days with the possibility of an extension for another 60. Travelers will have to register on the online platform at least 48 hours before arrival and pay the fee.

Mozambique is located in South Africa, its coast is washed by the Indian Ocean and is 2.5 thousand kilometers long. Mozambique has numerous beaches and marine parks, as well as coral reefs and mangrove forests.
