OREANDA-NEWS  Timber processing enterprises in the north-west of Russia unexpectedly faced a sharp drop in the cost of supplies to China. Back in the first quarter of 2023, the price was about $ 120 per cubic meter, now you can send products for $ 20, and in some cases — for $ 4. Mikhail Shamolin, president of the Segezha Group timber holding, told RBC about this in a comment.

Representatives of other industry companies operating in the region confirmed the information. According to their data, rates began to fall in the spring of this year, and by the end of summer it became possible to deliver goods to China for less than ten dollars per cubic meter.

At the same time, in Siberia, which is geographically much closer to China, the opposite picture is observed. According to Shamolin, the cost of shipping a cubic meter from there to China has increased to $ 55 per cubic meter.

Before the start of the Russian special operation in Ukraine, the products of timber processing enterprises could be delivered to China at a tariff of $ 20 per cubic meter from Siberia and $ 40 from the north-west of Russia. To compete with companies from the United States and Europe, deliveries to China should cost 30-35 dollars, according to the president of Segezha.
