OREANDA-NEWS  The Hong Kong company Smart International Distribution Limited (SIDL) wanted to take away the Lenovo brand in Russia. This is reported by the newspaper Vedomosti with reference to materials from the file of arbitration cases.

Chinese Lenovo is known as a manufacturer of computer equipment — laptops, tablets and phones. Since the spring of 2022, the brand's goods have been coming to Russia only through parallel imports. Nevertheless, the Lenovo trademark is subject to protection in the country, although SIDL claims that the company does not use the brand. The Intellectual Property Rights Court (IPC) has banned Rospatent from registering a new SDL brand that resembles the Lenovo logo until the dispute with Lenovo (Beijing) Limited is over

SIDL has already tried to sue the rights to use trademarks from Xiaomi and Dyson, but the Hong Kong company refused to register brands. According to the lawyer of Forward Legal Lyudmila Lukyanova, the Hong Kong company is trying to become the first to apply for registration in Russia of trademarks similar to the brands of bygone brands. SIDL's behavior is similar to the strategy of the "forest orderly", who captures the trademarks of the copyright holders who left Russia, added Pavel Katkov, a member of the CCI Committee on entrepreneurship in the field of media communications. Troll companies may be behind this company, which will then make a reverse sale of the mark to its rightholder, or a competitor who wants to enter a new market, the expert added.

Earlier it became known that Apple may face legal difficulties in China after the release of the Vision Pro headset on the global market. The name of the company's first augmented reality helmet belongs to Huawei Corporation in China. The company registered the brand in November 2021 and has exclusive rights to use it in the region until 2031.
