OREANDA-NEWS. Of Russia's 147 million residents, more than 27.2 million people have access to separate garbage collection, according to a ranking of cities published by Greenpeace Russia. Experts of "Greenpeace" came to the conclusion that during the year this indicator increased more than two times.

The study is based on data provided to Greenpeace by the authorities of 165 Russian cities with a population of more than 100 thousand people.

"For the first time, 26 cities became the leaders of the rating, where 100% of container sites are equipped with tanks for collecting recyclable materials. Among them are mainly the cities of the Moscow region, as well as Almetyevsk, Nizhnekamsk, Taganrog, Tver and Shakhty", - stated in the material.

Among Russian millionaires, Moscow takes the first place. As of December 2019, 95% of container sites in the capital are already equipped with a two-container system for separate waste collection (RSO). In the materials provided by the authorities, it is stated that in January 2020, 100% of yard waste collection sites should be transferred to the new system.

Greenpeace knows that Muscovites have a lot of complaints about the system, but in this rating we did not evaluate the quality of the RSO, and only give digital values," — said in the annotation to the rating.

In some cities, the availability of separate garbage collection has decreased: in Kirov from 37% to zero, in Murmansk — from 30% to zero, in Vladivostok — from 17 to 6%.

A representative of the state — owned company Russian environmental operator (REO) explained to RBC that the development of a "road map" for the introduction of separate waste collection will take place before June 1, 2020-the deadline set by President Vladimir Putin.

"Pilot projects on separate waste collection are already being launched in many regions. The positive experience of implementing these projects will be analyzed in detail, and the best practices will be implemented throughout the country," the REO said.

The representative of the company noted that the topic of separate collection is closely related to the system of extended producer responsibility. "On behalf of the President, a draft law is being prepared, and it should be adopted by The state Duma in the spring session. It is assumed that this law will regulate all issues related to the promotion of separate waste collection, " the company noted.
