OREANDA-NEWS  The first batch of chicken eggs from Turkey was imported into Russia, the Rosselkhoznadzor reported.

"On January 3rd, the first batch of edible eggs from Turkey in the amount of 19.36 tons (316,800 pieces) was imported through the Yarag-Kazmalyar checkpoint for further sale on the territory of Russia," the statement said.

Earlier, the Russian Government allowed for the period from January 1 to June 30, 2024, to import up to 1.2 billion chicken eggs without duty. This measure was introduced to decant price increases.

According to Rosstat, chicken eggs have been getting more expensive since the beginning of July, adding almost 60 percent in price over the year.
Vladimir Putin explained this by saying that demand has increased, but production has not increased, besides, imports have not been opened on time. It was a failure in the work of the government, the head of state explained. He expressed confidence that the situation will improve soon, as it is under the close attention of the Ministry of Agriculture.

The ministry predicted the stabilization of prices for chicken eggs after the New Year due to imports and production growth. A similar forecast was made by the deputy chairman of the Board of the Association of Manufacturers and Suppliers of Food Products (Rusprodsoyuz) Dmitry Leonov. He noted that the price level for eggs has become a record in ten years, but in 2024 it can be expected to decrease.
