OREANDA-NEWS The company "Sakhalin Energy" - the operator of the project "Sakhalin-2" - launched an investigation into the causes of the incident with the tanker-liquefied gas carrier Grand Elena, who on Tuesday night rammed a pier in the port of Prigorodnoye in Sakhalin. This was reported on Wednesday in the company.

The ship was supposed to ship liquefied natural gas (LNG) in the port of Prigorodnoye, which serves the Sakhalin-2 project. It rammed the dock and got a hole in it.

"We confirm the fact of the incident. Now began the investigation of the causes of the accident. The investigation is conducted by Sakhalin energy," the Agency's interlocutor said.

The company said that it is too early to say how serious the damage to the vessel. As a result of the incident, no one was injured, no damage to the environment was caused.

The port clarified that the tanker is now anchored, the berth for LNG shipment is temporarily closed.

The Grand Elena gas tanker was built in Japan in 2007 specifically for the supply of Russian gas to the countries of the Asia-Pacific region. According to open sources, the ship can carry up to 145 thousand cubic meters of LNG, its deadweight is 71.2 thousand tons, the length reaches 288 meters.

Implementation of the Sakhalin-2 project began in 1996. "Sakhalin-2" on 50% belongs to "Gazprom", 27,5% in Shell, and 12.5% for Mitsui and 10% for Mitsubishi. The project is developing two offshore fields — Piltun-Astokhskoye and Lunskoye.

The investigative bodies of the ICE on the transport of the TFR on the collision of the tanker with the berth conducted a procedural check on part 1 of article 263 of the criminal code (violation of traffic safety and operation of sea transport).

According to preliminary data, the tanker-gas carrier "Grand Elena" (home port — Limassol, Republic of Cyprus) at departure from the berth No. 1 of seaport Prigorodnoye made a bulk on the mooring therefore received a hole of the ballast tank of the left Board. In addition, damage to the berth was caused. There were no casualties and there was no leakage of liquefied natural gas loaded into the tanker.

It is planned to conduct diving works for the purpose of inspection of the berth and the vessel.
