OREANDA-NEWS By the end of 2023, Russians began to postpone the purchase of a car more often due to the geopolitical situation. This is reported by Kommersant with reference to the results of a study by analysts of the B1 company.

According to the results of the survey, 57 percent of citizens preferred to postpone the purchase of a car for 1-2 years. Another 8 percent of respondents completely refused such expenses. As a result, the share of those wishing to upgrade the car in the next five years decreased by 11 percentage points (pp) compared to the pre-crisis 2021 figure and amounted to 78 percent.

The analytical agency "Autostat" announced an increase in the period of car ownership. By the end of 2023, the indicator in the mass segment of the car market reached the level of 6.8 years. Among owners of Lada cars, the average ownership period increased to 8.4 years, although in 2022 it was at the level of 8.3 years. Experts believe that postponing the purchase of a car is mainly forced by the lack of offers.

Earlier, Autostat reported a decrease in the interest of Russians in buying used cars. So, by the end of January 2024, citizens purchased a total of 324.7 thousand used passenger cars. The indicator decreased by 10.1 percent compared to the same period in 2023.
