OREANDA-NEWSKiev will file a lawsuit in international arbitration with a claim for compensation from Russia for “material and moral harm” allegedly inflicted in connection with the incident in the Kerch Strait. This was stated by Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Yevhen Yenin in an interview with a news agency.

"A significant part of our lawsuit is the justification of compensation for material and moral harm to our sailors who were illegally detained on the territory of the Russian Federation for nine months", he said.

The diplomat recalled that the memorandum should be filed with the arbitration before May 22. "We demand from the international arbitration a decision that would oblige the Russian side to provide us with guarantees of the non-recurrence of such incidents, since it is about the immunity of warships", he said.

On May 18, Yenin said that Ukraine had prepared documents for international arbitration of the incident in the Kerch Strait and intended to submit them on time.
